It’s hard to allow my son to enjoy the benefits of today’s technology and also allow him to have a childhood as carefree as I had. I am happy I enjoyed a childhood without cell phones and video games as well as internet and social media. I was able to play outside and felt safe to be out of house all day. I was home alone a lot which gave me time to myself to play as well as mature and learn to do a lot on my own. I struggle to bring the same joys of my childhood to my children’s life. I love the advancements and enjoy social media myself. But at nearly 38 years old I sometimes feel I can’t escape it. I know that since I was 21 years old I never left without my cell phone and by 2010 my phone was like a body part. I do limit when I can but my son and daughter will never know a life without technology. I want them to have solid relationships and have good communication skills beyond texting and emojis. I am glad they both like to read I will always encourage reading for fun. Using imagination creativity and will do my best to teach them to be self sufficient. I want them to know what silence is what peace is what hard work is. I want them to believe in themselves trust in God and be respectful to their parents, teachers, coaches and be kind to all. I will continue to do my best to raise them with a good balance of technology and nature.
